ACL Foodie Spots (outside the fest)
By Danny on Sep 6 Filed In ACL, Food & Beverage 1 Comment
ACL is less than 2 weeks away and everyone at the SLT Headquarters is super excited! We’ll be throwing some awesome band picks up here for ACL in the upcoming days, but right now I wanted to give you the inside scoop on some AMAZING new foodie spots to hit up while you are in town enjoying all the wonderful things ACL has to offer!
Mrs. P’s Electric Cock - Fried Chicken!
This trailer just made South Congress it’s home, and I’m happy it did! Being on the path to work, I’ve hit this place up a couple times. Their chicken is juicy, not greasy. With sides like blue cheese coleslaw and white truffle mac & cheese, you’ll likely be in a food coma within seconds with a smile on your face.
Franklin BBQ – This BBQ is King!
Since late 2009 this, BBQ trailer turned Brick & Mortar has made a name for themselves. They have received numerous write ups and press, and it’s all for a great reason. They have the best brisket that I have ever had. They are open from 11 – Sold Out. Get there at 9:45am and wait to be the first through the door. It’s a meal you won’t regret waiting for. Their espresso bbq sauce is drinkable, and you’ll get your meat cut by Franklin, himself!
Second Bar + Kitchen - Fancy Austin Dining.
Located downtown, it’s a good place to head to after you showered from the fest and before you go out! Fried Buffalo Pickle Chips, where it’s at!
Counter Cafe - Danny’s Top burger!
This place has finicky hours, but it’s great for a burger before you head to Zilker! It has my favorite burger in town, and that’s not speaking lightly.
East Side Kings - Quality Trailer Fare!
With 3 locations on East 6th, and the best trailer food I’ve ever had, you need to check one of them out! This asian street fair will fill your belly. Beet Fries, Thai Chicken Karaage, Beef Tongue Sliders, and Unagi Buns, you’ll be happy you went. (Enjoy with a Mint and Honey Green Tea or a Lonestar)
Lollapalooza is finally here!
By Charla on Aug 5 Filed In Chicago, Lollapalooza 1 Comment
I just woke up with the biggest smile! Not only is it gorgeous and beautiful weather outside, but I’m in Chicago and Grant Park is calling my name. Lollapalooza is one of my favorite all-time favorite events with Sweet Leaf and this year is really going to be amazing. It’s the 25th Anniversary of Lollapalooza—honestly, it’s hard for me to believe it’s been around that long and Perry Farrell is old enough to have a 25 year old festival!
We’ve got a whole tea’m here in Chi-town ready to sling tea, keep the masses refreshed and make sure we all have a little fun along the way. In fact, if you stacked all the cans of tea that we sold last year vertically in a straight line towards the sky, you’d have 5.359 miles of cans. Imagine the tea’m needed to build that! Check out some other interesting Lolla tidbits and survival tips here.
If you aren’t able to join us this year, tune into the Lollapalooza channel for live streaming video, follow tweets from the tea’m (@SweetLeafTea, @SweetLeafDanny, @SweetLeafCharla) or tune in next week for our recaps. We’ll give you the lowdown to prep for the next music festival on the circuit—Austin City Limits or Langerado, perhaps?

This time she’s back in the windy city to attend Summer on Southport, a street festival for the WHOLE family! Lollapalooza Top Picks and Tips!
By Danny on Jul 21 Filed In Lollapalooza Add a Comment
SweetLeafDanny here, bringing you the 1st Sweet Picks and Tips of Lollapalooza! This is the frist edition of a series where we tell you a top band pick at the fest and a tip to survive, so be sure to continue to stop by and see what the rest of the Tea’m has to say! Maybe their tip will help you get out of a port-o-potty experience gone sour, or help you find friends when the cell signal is down, or a way to get into VIP!
Stay tuned, but for now enjoy.
If you are into Soul music, banging beats, and that big horn sound….Look no further than Mayer Hawthorne and the County!
This group know how to put on a show. I saw them last year (2010) at SXSW and it was amazing. Turn up your energy to full blast and get your stepping shoes on when you see this group! Check out this video to start getting excited. They go on at 3:30pm on Saturday at the Sony Stage!
I have been around the block a few times, seen some great bands, traveled across the country in pursuit of Liber-TEA and good times, and have a 3 tips that will make your festival experience the best it can be!
1 – Equal parts Tea/Water to Alcohol Ratio!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen someone passed out on the grass at 7:30pm on Friday night at a music festival. Follow this tip and you’ll be on the fast track to hydration, fun, and carrying on through to the night, and the rest of the weekend! *High-five bro!*
2 – Sunscreen – USE it!
Don’t get burnt, skin cancer sucks, so does having to avoid the sun the rest of the festival with a obnoxious hat. (see below)
3 – Fake Mustaches – bring em!
It’s fun to have them on and hand them to strangers. You’ll make someone’s day and look suave doing it!
Follow these tips and have a great time at Lolla! Oh yeah, be sure to stop by Mayer Hawthorne and the County to say hi and fist bump! Keep it real!
Granny on the Go! Cycling Style!
By Danny on Jul 8 Filed In Events, Sweet Bikes Add a Comment
Granny has busted out her riding gear and dusted off her 3-speed cruiser and is ready for a night time cruise in the windy city! Chicago’s L.A.T.E. Ride is this weekend and we couldn’t be more excited to be apart of this awesome event! Basically, at 11pm on Saturday July 9th a group of 9,000 cyclist meet at Buckingham fountain to ride 25-miles around the city through the streets and trails! There is a pit stop mid-way and at the end of the ride everyone meets back at Buckingham Fountain for a pancake breakfast at 3am with some Sweet Leaf to wash it down! The great thing about this event is that all the proceeds go to Friends of the Parks, a Non-Profit organization who work on many park issues and dig in at park clean-ups and beautification projects in Chicago!
Registration for the event can be found here, or if you want to walk up its $45 for your rider packet and the ride!
What do you say Chicago? Wanna come out, help out the parks, have an amazing bike ride through the Windy City at the wee-hours of the morning, and drink some free Sweet Leaf Tea! Head on out!
« go back — keep looking »
