The SXSW Flavor Demo Experience

Well, SXSW 2010 has come to a close and Austin has returned to its original state. Cars are once again allowed to drive down 6th Street during normal hours of the day, and the sounds of music blaring from bars and clubs downtown is once again most commonly heard only in the night hours. Here at SLT we are all slowly but surely recovering from the fun.
I had the opportunity to work at our tasting stand during the music part of this years SXSW, and let me tell you, it was a pleasure to meet all of you who stopped by to say hi and grab some samples and swag.
All of you who stopped by our stand on 6th and San Marcos last weekend had some great questions and comments about our tea. The question I was asked most frequently however was what my favorite flavor was. You must understand that every time someone asks me this it’s difficult for me to answer. I like all of our flavors (and no, they’re not just paying me to say that!). I love ‘em all, and I think that the best way to find your own favorite is to try them all for yourself and discover the wonderment that is our array of offerings. It’s like picking a favorite flavor of ice cream: impossible, because they are all wonderful!
Now if I HAD to absolutely reveal the tea that I find myself drinking most often on a daily basis, it would be the Mint and Honey Green Tea. It’s cool and refreshing and perfect for our hot Texas days. General consensus from you SXSW taste testers tended to agree that Mint and Honey is a hit, but it’s baby sister Citrus Green Tea ran a close second. I was surprised how many SXSW goers hadn’t tried our new citrus flavor yet, and was happy to be the first to offer you a taste and see the expressions of satisfaction spread across your faces as the first citrus wonderfulness hit your taste buds (think Will Ferrell-style, “it’s so good, when it hits your lips, IT’S SO GOOD!” style responses here people!).
If you didn’t get a chance to visit our tasting stand during SXSW you may have missed out on the fun, but you can still try all of our flavors by heading out to your local grocery and convenience stores and snatching up some of our tea. If you are unsure where to find tea near you, check out our store locator feature on our website, or shoot us an email and ask us for more information!
Ping Pong with the Tea’m

So I’ve never once played ping pong and never really had any desire to until SLT came into my life. My new goal is to attempt to learn the rules of ping pong in my spare time and at least be able to play well enough to not embarrass myself.
About two weeks ago Janet and I had our first ping pong match. It was a good place to start but could definitely use improvement. For all of those out there that also want to try to pick up a new skill here is a site that lays out the basics of ping pong.
Check it out! Also, if you are an overly competitive person this game could be a great fit for you. So go enjoy a game of ping pong and a bottle of Sweet Leaf Tea.

Ever seen Charlie the Unicorn?
This ‘shunnn’ mentality echoed in my mind after my first Sweet Leaf Tea demo this week at the grand opening of Newflower Farmers Market in Bee Cave, where my intern-buddy Jessie and I found ourselves demo-ing against rival tea makers, as well as proving to the Sweet Leaf Tea newcomers that SLT really is a better bottled tea compared to the other bottled teas with the bad ingredients and even worse taste they had previously sworn off. Luckily, I never had to actually shun any one of our testers, as Jessie and I, along with our brand ambassador Jackie, successfully converted all those non-believers to the delicious taste of all-natural Sweet Leaf Tea. Jessie and I learned that projecting our passion for the brand onto others is joyful and rewarding, especially when the kids come back for seconds and thirds with their parents who love it even more!
Even though it was a cold, rainy day with occasional sleet, getting out of the office and into the store was a fantastic experience. I loved interacting with all of the customers, as well as dancing to my favorite oldies music being played on speakers overhead. Jessie loved handing out all of the Sweet Leaf Tea swag to the kids (tattoos, stickers and buttons, oh my!), and my favorite part was bartering the very popular samples of tea for the other store samples to make an interesting combination for lunch. My first demo was a success, Sweet Leaf Tea FTW!
Everybody loves the Sweet Leaf Tea!

I’m in my second week of my marketing internship here at SLT and it has been even better than the first week! I love that every day I come to the office there will probably be a new dog running around that I haven’t gotten to play with yet (I have to admit Oscar is my favorite so far).
In my experience you can tell if you’ll like an internship within the first few days and I know I will love it here. While I learn more about marketing I look forward to getting to know a great brand, play some ping pong and drink all the free tea I can manage to keep down.
My intern buddy is Eliza. I’ve only worked with her a few days but I already know we’re going to get along great. A few things to know about Eliza if you ever run into her at the office or at an event: she is crazy friendly, loves listening to oldies (this has become a daily routine with us haha) and is a traveling enthusiast.
We have already worked on a few projects since we started and each in their own way has been a great way of introducing us to the brand and what it’s all about. I can’t wait to see what else we get to work on this semester and the great SLT followers that we’ll get to interact with along the way.
