As I sit here, two days after ACL, with my feet covered in blisters and a sunburnt nose, I can only look back on this past weekend and smile. If someone were to ask me a week ago if I were attending the Austin City Limits Music Festival, I would have had to answer reluctantly that I would not be even though my love for music and especially my love for many of the attending artists is immense. But, much to my own very pleasant surprise, last Thursday evening, as I was checking my e-mail inbox after a long day of work, I found out that I had won two 3-day passes to the festival. The wonderful Brand Marketing Manager, Charla Adams, left me a simple yet sweet message that made me jump up and down, squealing, while my dog stared at me as if I were a crazy person. I contacted Charla immediately and soon, ticket pick-up plans were made, work shifts were covered, and before I knew it, I was on my way to the festival!

Attending my very first ACL was truly an experience which I will sweetly keep in my heart for years to come. I know that not everyone was fortunate enough to attend the festival, therefore, if you were not one of the approximate 65,000 individuals daily at ACL, allow me to give you my run down of the three-day musical spectacular that was the Austin City Limits Festival of 2010. To be completely honest, there really wasn’t much about the festival that one could complain about or dislike. With the temperature highs reaching the upper 80s/lower 90s, and the skies reaching the bluest of baby blues with only a few wispy clouds lazily hanging around, the weather could be described as perfect. Zilker Park, in all its natural beauty, was blanketed in a colorful sea of umbrellas and quilts as festival-goers relaxed while listening to a wide selection of musical acts. But the music wasn’t the only thing in abundance at ACL and I was actually quite surprised at the amazing food vendor selections. Being new to Austin, it was nice to be able to try some new restaurants by simply walking from one booth to the next as opposed to driving around town! Another cool feature of the festival was the extensive art section that included some very talented jewelry designers, painters, and other artists displaying their unique items in small, adjoining tents. It was fun to walk through the booths, talk to the artists and look at interesting pieces of work while waiting for the next band I would like to see. But of course, the most note-worthy aspect of the festival was the music!

The artists at my first ACL included an amazing mix of more widely-known artists such as Muse, Silversun Pickups, and The Black Keys fused with some up-and-coming gems that included Miike Snow, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, and Two Door Cinema Club. Being a music fanatic, I was worried that some of the smaller bands would be overlooked by many due to their alternative sound and their under-exposure. Therefore, I was in shock to see how many individuals actually came out to support these bands and were loyal fans, just like me! This really solidified in me that Austinites are true music enthusiasts, and that they know their stuff! It was an amazing feeling being engulfed in a crowd of people, all diverse individuals in many ways, yet all dancing and singing to the same song; that was the true beauty of the festival! Along with the Sweet Leaf balloons playfully bopping up and down through the crowd, it really was a truly unique and amazing weekend for me.

When I look back at my first ACL weekend, I will always smile and remember the good times, the good tunes and the good people. But most importantly, I will always remember sipping crisp Sweet Leaf Tea and knowing that without them, my amazing memories would not be possible. I would like to again thank Sweet Leaf Tea for giving me the opportunity to attend the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Rest assured they have found a lifelong supporter in me!

I cannot wait for ACL next year. My mind is already running wild wondering which bands will be in attendance. I truly believe that music is one of the only constants in our lives that keeps our souls afloat and our minds sane and festivals give us a way to share that feeling with friends, new and old. I am so thankful that I was able to attend this year and let me be the first one to tell you …

Only 363 days until ACL 2011! See y’all there, with a Sweet Leaf in hand!

Peace, Love, and Music,

Olga Rose

If you can’t tell, Sweet Leaf Tea-mates LOVE ACL weekend. And why wouldn’t we? It’s only Austin’s BEST music event of the year. The artists rock, the food is local and the drinks, well, it can’t get much sweeter that Granny.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been dishing up what we like to call our Sweet Beats and Eats picks. It gives us an excuse to spread the word about all the good food around town, while also sharing a little love for our favorite bands. I’ve also been using it to pick up some new music recommendations for those weird time slots that I didn’t have a particular band picked out. It’s been a fun series of posts to read (tells me a little something about my fellow mates), but now that it’s coming to a close I feel like there’s still something missing.

Which is where you come into play.

The Sweet Beats and Eats blog series needs a little fan love to be complete. Maybe you haven’t thought about who you would see and what you would eat because you didn’t have tickets. Well, get to looking at the line-up of Beats and Eats at the festival and around town because you can still get in on the action.

Tell us your Sweet Beats and Eats Pick with a little explanation as to why each makes your list in the comments section of this blog and you could WIN TWO 3-DAY AUSTIN CITY LIMITS MUSIC FESTIVAL PASSES. That’s right Sweet Leaf fans, we want you to rock out in Zilker with us. All comments must be posted here on this blog post by 4:30pm on Thursday, October 7, 2010 to be eligible.

Pour your hearts out to rock out!

Hey music lovers! ACL is coming up THIS WEEK!  WOOT WOOT!

Personally, I can’t think of anything I enjoy more than laying out on the Zilker grass, drinking an ice cold Mint & Honey Sweet Leaf [maybe mixed with some "water" I brought in], and watching The Strokes……..UNLESS, I was playing along to “Is This It” on my BRAND NEW SWEET LEAF EPIPHONE GUITAR!

Thanks to Epiphone, this ACL we are giving YOU the chance to win THIS BABY, and all you have to do is take a sweet pic at ACL and upload the photo to www.sweetleafsweetspot.com or post it on twitter and attaching #sweetleafsweetspot + #acl.

Well hello again my fellow music lovers. Welcome to the music capital of the world, to enjoy another 3 days full of great music, great food, great drinks (hello, Tito’s Sweeto’s), and great people.

Flashback to last year’s “Austin Shitty Limits”…remember, this ummm, interesting dude….

Alien Mud Child

We still rocked out to Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ghostland, The Dead Weather, and Pearl Jam despite the giant shit storm. This year I am predicting clear sunny skies with temps in the mid-80s so this year is sure to top the last year’s like it always does. It is hard to give you my one band pick with so many amazing acts to choose from but let me say if there is one band you absolutely under-no-circumstances can’t miss, it is Matt and Kim. I made that huge, HUGE, mistake at Lollapalooza and I am not sure if I will ever forgive myself. I had to hear everyone rave about the show for the rest of the festival while I just hung my head with jealousy. I heard there was crowd-surfing booty dancing, lots of balloons, and impromptu covers like this one:

Don’t. Miss. This. Show.

Now on to the Eats. Honestly, you could get a great tasting of Austin restaurants right there at the food court on the festival grounds. Guero’s, Kerby Lane, Mighty Cone, P Terry’s, Olivia, just to name a few, will all be serving up tasty goodness. Torchy’s tacos are at the Festival too but I still recommend visiting their trailer on 1st street to get the full experience. My two favorite tacos are the Baja Shrimp and the fried avocado with refried beans. What makes the taco’s is their creamy chipotle and creamy avocado salsas. I could literally just eat the sauces with a spoon. It’s ridiculously good.

Hola, ACL music lovers! If you’re not from the area, I’d like to be the first to welcome you to the Lone Star capital via this blog post of course. And if you’re a vet of this great festivus, then welcome back.

If you don’t have your schedule planned yet, don’t fret my friend. There’s been a gazillion great music recommendations from my fellow Tea-mates right here at the SIP. Check them out below. And because there were so many great picks already, it was hard to find a new band to write about that hadn’t been given their due Sweet Beat glory.

Which is why I decided to stick with my Lollapalooza band choice, The Black Keys. They were completely awesome in Chicago and I will be seeing them again. I can’t get enough of their new album, Brother. But, so as not to cheat you out of another pick, I’m going to triple that sweet beats play and say you could build a sanctuary in front of the AMD stage on Friday starting at 3:45 and be set for the rest of the night.

4:00 The Black Keys

6:00 Spoon (Our local boys still got it.)

8:00 The Strokes

I’m going to tell ya, I made a risky move at Lollapalooza. I thought, I’ve got to see how crazy Ms. GaGa can get so I’ll save the Strokes for ACL. A third of the way through her set, I was sprinting for the Strokes. I hate leaving the festival grounds at night on a bad note and I want to thank you, Strokes for setting me straight. I’ll never forget that last night with you.

SWEET EATS

It’s true that Austin has a great deal of delish food. Luckily, many of the local Austin faves have booths on festival grounds so even if you don’t get to venture out you can still have a foodie fest with your music at Zilker. One good spot that’s close whether you are entering or leaving the festival is P. Terry’s. Why? Hormone-free, antibiotic-free, vegetarian-fed beef. Or, if you don’t eat furries (like me) you can try the feather option, an all-natural ground chicken burger or their delicious veggie burger. The fries are cut fresh and have never seen the likes of a cold freezer. P. Terry’s is all around goodness right on S. Lamar and Barton Springs. Drive up or walk up and sink your teeth in.

If you can’t join in on the fun at ACL, I’ll keep you posted via Twitter at: @SweetLeafCharla and @SweetLeafTea

If you will be there, be sure to find us, we’ll be giving away some sweet prizes all festival long.

Rock on!

@SweetLeafCharla
