Music Monday: My Morning Jacket

Happy Monday y’all! With Lollapalooza just 4 weeks away, I’m trying to get up to speed on some of the amazing bands that are going to be performing this year. One of my long time faves, My Morning Jacket, just released a new album and I cannot WAIT to see the band perform Saturday night, August 6, 8:00-10:00pm. If you haven’t picked up the new album, Circuital, do so now. Be prepared to turn your speakers up and let the echoing sounds of Jim James’ voice fill your head. It’ll make for a nice Monday mid-day break. And I guarantee, hearing Jim James sing it live will blow the track you download out of the water. Here’s a clip of the title track, “Circuital” from a recent show. Let it download…it’s worth the wait.
If you don’t have tickets to Lollapalooza yet, have no fear. We’ve got a fun contest brewing and will have more details for you next week! Stay tuned.
@SweetLeafJacqui Reflects On Her Latest Concert Experience

- Puffy paint never goes out of style. Apparently, we were the only girls in the crowd who got the memo. However, just our appearance made people breakout into song (shout out to our waiter at Luke) and it was totally worth it.
- You’re never too old to do the leg swing. Yes, the New Kids rocked it on stage. And anyone who thinks they invented the “brush your shoulders off” move needs a music video education. http://youtu.be/tbIEwIwYz-c
- Basketball stadiums were not built to be packed with screaming girls. If basketball players think it’s hard to hear the whistle blow during a playoff game, they need to sit in a packed stadium of girls and just have Donnie Walberg take off his shirt (insert high pitch scream here). My ears are still ringing! BSB sings “Larger Than Life (insert extra high pitch scream). Nick Carter takes a swig out of an Ozarka water bottle (more screams while 1000 girls lunge for the trash he just chucked into the crowd). That being said, I did wake up a little hoarse Wednesday morning.
- It only takes two notes for all of the words to come back to you. During many Backstreet Boy songs, I was singing along and I had no idea I even knew the song. Ahh the power of boy bands. http://youtu.be/4fndeDfaWCg How I do miss you so.
- 8 girl friends + $43 cheap seats & $5 homemade shirts = Greatest Tuesday Night Ever. There is nothing better than having a great time singing, dancing, and laughing with good friends. Add in the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t get better than that.
Music Monday 90′s Style!

So, tomorrow is a BIG day! I get to live out one of my childhood dreams and see New Kids on the Block, also known as NKOTB to us cool kids, live in concert. As a special bonus, Donnie, Danny, Jordan, Jonathon, and Joey will be joined by the lovely and talented Backstreet Boys. (Thank goodness N’sync wasn’t included because I would have hyperventilated.)
In preparation for our girls night out concert trip, I started putting together a little playlist of other songs from bands during that era. I had to start with the first CD that I ever owned. Ace of Base, which quickly led me to Wilson Phillips “Hold On”. And then I also had to include my favorite music video of all time, Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract”.
If these two songs don’t make you put a smile on your face, I don’t know what will. Sound off in the comments with any other stellar bands I need to add to my playlist. Stay tuned for my full concert recap and pictures of us in our homemade NKOTB t-shirts (with puff paint of course) next week!

It’s Monday and that means I’m plugging in my headphones and checking out the Lollapalooza line-up for a new band to get excited about (like I need more!). This morning has pushed me in the direction of something a little lo-fi and pop rockish, as well as a sport I used to play avidly!
This prep-pop husband/wife duo will have to bee-bopping all day long. Check out these songs and hit me back with your thoughts! You can catch them at Lollapalooza on Friday at 1pm at the Grove! See ya there!

Balloons Everywhere at Free Press Summer Fest!

As you can tell from my last post, Free Press Summer Fest was a blast! We love working them, spreading the love, and having a great time doing it. One of our favorite things to do is launch our SLT balloons into the crowd during some sweet shows! I was just passed along the photo above from the TheLoopScoop.com. How pretty is that! Check out the video below, @TEddingston made, to see the awesomeness of balloon launching at Free Press!
Enjoy – @SweetLeafDanny
