So I’ve never once played ping pong and never really had any desire to until SLT came into my life. My new goal is to attempt to learn the rules of ping pong in my spare time and at least be able to play well enough to not embarrass myself.

About two weeks ago Janet and I had our first ping pong match. It was a good place to start but could definitely use improvement. For all of those out there that also want to try to pick up a new skill here is a site that lays out the basics of ping pong.

Check it out! Also, if you are an overly competitive person this game could be a great fit for you. So go enjoy a game of ping pong and a bottle of Sweet Leaf Tea.

Today we salute you Mr. Way Too Proud of Texas Guy…..

I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying, “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could”.  Well, maybe I could have gotten here a little faster, but that’s beside the point. I’m still a relative newcomer to Texas; I’ve lived here in Austin for just under 2 years now. Anyone who knew me in my pre-Texas years can tell you that before I got here I was a faithful believer in every stereotype embodied by the Mr. Way Too Proud of Texas Guy. I couldn’t understand how one single state could garner so much loyalty and passion from its residents, but then I got here. Less than 2 years was all it took for me to grow to appreciate (and dare I say fall in love with) this state, and now I understand what all the hype is about. I’ve come to realize the simple beauty of breakfast tacos, I’ve experienced the tears of both happiness and pain that often result from a single football game, and have learned through personal experience that my cowboy boots can be paired with any outfit successfully.  Texans may be a proud bunch, but they have good reason to be.

Texas Independence Day is March 2 and what better time to celebrate all that is Texas than by taking in the sights and experiences that it has to offer? Here are a few ideas from us Sweet Leaf interns of how to mark this holiday. Of course, we’re partial to the weirdness and fun-ness that is the ATX, but we encourage you to find ways to celebrate no matter what town you’re in!

  1. Get your Texas Independence Day weekend off to an early start with First Thursday on South Congress on Thursday March 4th.  Merchants on South Congress stay open late (until 10pm) on the first Thursday of every month and there are a variety of activities and events to check out, including special sales and free drinks!
  2. Hit up the Celebrate Texas festivities in downtown Austin. Events include the Texas Independence Day parade on the Congress Avenue Bridge at 9:30 am on Saturday March 6th and an Alamo Defenders Remembrance Ceremony at the capital building on Sunday March 7th at 2:00 pm.  Find out more at www.celebratetexas.org.
  3. Enjoy a refreshing Sweet Leaf Tea! We were born in Beaumont and currently reside in Austin. It doesn’t get more homegrown than that! With 12 flavors to choose from it might be a difficult choice, but grab a bottle of homemade goodness and enjoy!
  4. Eat some gosh darn bar-be-que! If you ask us, one of the best things about living in Texas is access to the BEST barbeque in the world. From Rudy’s to the Salt Lick, grab some friends and make it a date. If you prefer, have your own barbeque at home. Just be sure to share your recipes with Granny afterward!
  5. If you feel like getting out in the fresh Austin air, treck over to Town Lake and take a run or walk on the trails, let your pup run free in the dog park, or rent a kayak and take in the sights of downtown from the water.

Whatever you decide to do this Texas Independence Day, have fun and be sure to remember the great history and story that is Texas’ past. Don’t forget to share your plans with Granny, she loves to hear what you crazy kids are up to!

Ever seen Charlie the Unicorn?

This ‘shunnn’ mentality echoed in my mind after my first Sweet Leaf Tea demo this week at the grand opening of Newflower Farmers Market in Bee Cave, where my intern-buddy Jessie and I found ourselves demo-ing against rival tea makers, as well as proving to the Sweet Leaf Tea newcomers that SLT really is a better bottled tea compared to the other bottled teas with the bad ingredients and even worse taste they had previously sworn off.  Luckily, I never had to actually shun any one of our testers, as Jessie and I, along with our brand ambassador Jackie, successfully converted all those non-believers to the delicious taste of all-natural Sweet Leaf Tea.  Jessie and I learned that projecting our passion for the brand onto others is joyful and rewarding, especially when the kids come back for seconds and thirds with their parents who love it even more!

Even though it was a cold, rainy day with occasional sleet, getting out of the office and into the store was a fantastic experience.  I loved interacting with all of the customers, as well as dancing to my favorite oldies music being played on speakers overhead.  Jessie loved handing out all of the Sweet Leaf Tea swag to the kids (tattoos, stickers and buttons, oh my!), and my favorite part was bartering the very popular samples of tea for the other store samples to make an interesting combination for lunch.  My first demo was a success, Sweet Leaf Tea FTW!

I’m in my second week of my marketing internship here at SLT and it has been even better than the first week! I love that every day I come to the office there will probably be a new dog running around that I haven’t gotten to play with yet (I have to admit Oscar is my favorite so far).

Me & Oscar bonding

In my experience you can tell if you’ll like an internship within the first few days and I know I will love it here. While I learn more about marketing I look forward to getting to know a great brand, play some ping pong and drink all the free tea I can manage to keep down.

My intern buddy is Eliza. I’ve only worked with her a few days but I already know we’re going to get along great. A few things to know about Eliza if you ever run into her at the office or at an event: she is crazy friendly, loves listening to oldies (this has become a daily routine with us haha) and is a traveling enthusiast.

We have already worked on a few projects since we started and each in their own way has been a great way of introducing us to the brand and what it’s all about. I can’t wait to see what else we get to work on this semester and the great SLT followers that we’ll get to interact with along the way.

Welcome to Sweet Leaf Tea!

“Welcome to the Tea’m!” Those were the first words towards becoming a part of this family (dogs included). Starting my internship at Sweet Leaf Tea has been very surreal. Tea, keg, dogs running around the office, ping pong breaks, friendly faces – all the perks of the company. My first week is not over yet, but the days are flying right before my eyes.

Kathryn, my intern partner every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (she’s stuck with me) strained our eyes on the computers to do some intense researching. Towards the end of the first day, our hard work paid off with the sweet victory of a ping pong match vs. Happy.

Our second day at the office was filled with multiple projects and tasks which kept Kat and I busy. I never knew how much fun unpacking tea can be along with bubble wrap stacked towards the ceiling. Oh the ideas of what we can do with bubble wrap are limitless and can put a cunning smile on your face. Kat has been scheming to wrap me up with it and take a picture!

All I want to do at the end of the day is drink some Raspberry SLT, and apparently so do all my friends who take it from me. Everyone seems to just want a piece of Granny!

I am really excited for what the rest of the semester has in store for me, and I must say the forecast is looking positive. It’s the dream internship :) This one is for you, April: SLT FTW!
