We are on the count down… and my stomach is already growling. I already gave you top picks to eat on the way to the fest, but once you are in that musical jungle, where are you going to forage for berries, dig up your root vegetables, and hunt for your protein (Barton Springs Salamander sandwich?)
Luckily the good folks at ACL have not let you down this year. Crawl your way up the the Austin Eats food court and try not to spook the workers, and they’ll serve you up some true Austin grubbage!
Click here for the whole list, but see below for my top 3 choices! [Other than SLT of course
]
With local product leading their force, they’ll be serving up Pork Belly Sliders and BACON wrapped sweet peppers w Goat cheese (OMG). If that won’t make you hurt yourself, I don’t know what will.
This friend chicken got me through ACL last year! Honey Butter Chicken…It’ll make you ask for a heart attack. Amazing. Put this on your must eat list.
No need explaining what makes this friend chicken and avocado wrap with spicy coleslaw amazing. Eat it and be happy.
SweetLeafDanny’s Top Pick for ACL!

ACL is ONE WEEK AWAY! OMG! Then, I realized I’ve been so busy prepping that I haven’t written my top pick for the festival. Frantically, I scanned the line-up and LOW-AND-BEHOLD I found them!
I discovered this band at SXSW 3 years ago to the Austinist SXSW party. They were one of the opening bands that played before Kevin Devine (Personal Favorite). So I got there early and starting listening, and they caught my eye right off the bat. One thing that I was super impressed with, was the lead singer (Telekinesis! founder and brainchild, Michael Lerner) plays the drums while singing. It’s AH-mazing. I’ve seen them play SXSW a couple of time now and they have 2 albums and one EP out. They are all top notch records! BONUS they play at the Google + stage on Saturday at 11:45am! See them. It’s a great band to start your day!
This first video is just a live performance of to show you how awesome he is a drumming and singing my (current) favorite song.
These following are just awesome, listen and enjoy.
See you there!!!
Maine’s ACL Show Picks!

Come September 16th, 2011, locals and out of towners will flood our city’s back yard we call Zilker Park. Over the next few weeks it would be best to come up with a game plan to beat the Texas heat and soak in as much live music as possible. Two important words I heard at Lollapalooza earlier this month, “Hydrate while you Dehydrate” – Granny would approve!
Band Picks : Guaranteed to be a great time
Theopolis London : Friday : September 16, 2011 : 12:30pm : Bud Light Stage
I witnessed this guy tear up the stage about 3 times during SXSW 2011, in Austin of course. He mixes funky lyrics/beats with old and new school hip hop. He likes to perform and know how to get the crowd moving.
James Blake : Friday : September 16, 2011 : 3:00pm : Honda Stage
Another new artist I discovered at SXSW earlier this year. All I can say is that you have never heard anything like this before. James Blake stays in constant rotation on my Ipod. Each song delivers new meaning and new sounds. If you are into the soft side of dub-step, this artist will not disappoint.
Hayes Carll : Sunday : September 18, 2011 : 7:30pm : Austin Ventures Stage
Something for the Country/Texas in us all!!!
Stevie Wonder : Saturday : September 17, 2011 : 8:00pm : Bud Light Stage
Last but definitely not least. I grew up listening to Stevie and all of his glory. I remember being little and dancing in the living room while my dad played “Part Time Lover” on the record player.
Somethings never change, I still dance when I hear that song, as if it was the 1st time I heard it.
ACL Foodie Spots (outside the fest)

ACL is less than 2 weeks away and everyone at the SLT Headquarters is super excited! We’ll be throwing some awesome band picks up here for ACL in the upcoming days, but right now I wanted to give you the inside scoop on some AMAZING new foodie spots to hit up while you are in town enjoying all the wonderful things ACL has to offer!
Mrs. P’s Electric Cock - Fried Chicken!
This trailer just made South Congress it’s home, and I’m happy it did! Being on the path to work, I’ve hit this place up a couple times. Their chicken is juicy, not greasy. With sides like blue cheese coleslaw and white truffle mac & cheese, you’ll likely be in a food coma within seconds with a smile on your face.
Franklin BBQ – This BBQ is King!
Since late 2009 this, BBQ trailer turned Brick & Mortar has made a name for themselves. They have received numerous write ups and press, and it’s all for a great reason. They have the best brisket that I have ever had. They are open from 11 – Sold Out. Get there at 9:45am and wait to be the first through the door. It’s a meal you won’t regret waiting for. Their espresso bbq sauce is drinkable, and you’ll get your meat cut by Franklin, himself!
Second Bar + Kitchen - Fancy Austin Dining.
Located downtown, it’s a good place to head to after you showered from the fest and before you go out! Fried Buffalo Pickle Chips, where it’s at!
Counter Cafe - Danny’s Top burger!
This place has finicky hours, but it’s great for a burger before you head to Zilker! It has my favorite burger in town, and that’s not speaking lightly.
East Side Kings - Quality Trailer Fare!
With 3 locations on East 6th, and the best trailer food I’ve ever had, you need to check one of them out! This asian street fair will fill your belly. Beet Fries, Thai Chicken Karaage, Beef Tongue Sliders, and Unagi Buns, you’ll be happy you went. (Enjoy with a Mint and Honey Green Tea or a Lonestar)
“Spring(s) Cleaning” (RECAP EDITION)
By Danny on Sep 2 Filed In Austin, Texas 1 Comment
The SLT Tea’m loaded up and headed to the infamous Barton Springs Pool yesterday to help FRIENDS of Barton Springs clean the pool! Jonathan, our guide to cleanliness and freshwater ecology made the day tons of fun! Did you know the endangered Barton Springs Salamander lives INSIDE the spring, yeah, impressive. Plus, it’s the only place in the world you can find this little critter!
They even have an evacuation plan for the little guy if the droughts get to severe. Amazing.
Throughout the time we were there, we swept the algae away in the push broom conga line! SweetLeafMandy was alittle skiddish as we talked about the eels, the pool and threw some water plant leaves on her.
And when all is said and done, and you hop out of the 68º water, you feel like a million bucks! When you’re out there, it doesn’t even feel like work, just great fun with good people. This is definitely going to be a monthly tea’m building exercise for the SLT, for sure. Check out our photos of us “Spring(s) Cleaning”. — @Sweetleafdanny
