Have a bit of a competitive streak? Get a little worked up over a friendly game of Go Fish? Me too.
Lucky for the rest of us, Granny’s an exceptionally good sport, and has some of her helpful tips and reminders tucked under Sweet Leaf bottle caps. The next time you find yourself getting worked up over a heated game of checkers or wanting to insult the rival quarterback’s mom, grab a bottle of Sweet Leaf Tea and let Granny drop some wisdom on you.
Which of Granny’s under-the-cap words of wisdom helps keep your competitive side in check?
Contest: Comment on this blog post with the Grannyism you think is most suitable for keeping “friendly” games friendly. Tell us which one and why. We’ll check out the answers and select one lucky winner to enjoy a case of Sweet Leaf Tea and a fancy checkers set.
Hint: check out our Facebook page (and here) for a list of Grannyisms.

The best Grannyism for keeping a “friendly” game of checkers friendly would be….#9 TURN THAT FROWN UPSIDE-DOWN, because when I win, I’d still like to see a smile on your face
)
Who needs checkers, when you have Granny’s bottle caps, they may come in handy if your opponent has outwitted you. It’s all fair in love and war!
“Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill.” Really, it is just checkers…
Grannyism #76 of course! If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all
Oops, I forgot to say *why*. Saying something that isn’t nice will lead to an unfriendly game real quick.
Life is like walking through paradise with peas in your shoes.

Sweet Leaf mint & honey keeps me rolling when I’m on the air. Today’s cap said, “everything in moderation. especially moderation.” Good advice when you play checkers: a little defense here, a little offense here, a little sip of tea there, and before you know it, you’re king of the caps.
“Always Wear Clean Underwear” You have to take care of first things first.
But seriously: “Live in the now, remember the past, and think for the future.”
Live in the now: Enjoy the quality time that you are having with a friend and be thankful for the person on the other side of the checkerboard.
Remember the past: Remember all the good things that made you want to play a game with this person.
Think for the future: Why create tension with a friend when it is just a friendly game? Do you want either of you to be bitter afterwards or do you just want to go get some Sweet Leaf and a cupcake to celebrate a fun game?
ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR, because it’s true! even cheating is fair so beware!
Grannyism #37: “The greatest statements are rarely shouted” Granny tells us to use our indoor voices, especially when we say, “King me!”
I think the Grannyism to keep things friendly is: “Keep your chin up.” It applies on so many levels…If you keep your chin up your opponent will never figure out your tell, If your chin is up you’ll see what’s coming your way, If you keep you chin up after you lose you it’ll be harder for the winner to boast, could go on and on. Way to go Granny.
Grannyism #32: “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” If the pressure from a fair game is too much, maybe the agitated person should go find something else to do until they are willing to play nice.
“Always Wear Clean Underwear”?
But seriously: #38 LIVE IN THE NOW, REMEMBER THE PAST, AND THINK FOR THE FUTURE because:
1. “Live in the Now” Look across that checkerboard and think of how much you like (or even love) him/her and live in the reality that you’re about to have some fun!
2. “Remember the Past”: Remember another time when a game was unfriendly. Would you want a repeat of that? Remember all the special memories of your opponent and that will help you keep it friendly?
3. “Think for the Future”: Sure, plan your next move, but also plan to enjoy a Sweet Leaf together once the game is over! The best way to make sure this happens? Play a good, fair, fun game.
Grannyism #4. “Smile – it makes people wonder what you’re up to”
In any game this strategy produces a win-win situation. You’re being nice– and they’re curious about it.
