If you are a regular on our blog, you read that we donated some Sweet Leaf Tea to the Friends of Barton Springs Pool for their clean the springs day!  This week, I wrangled up the Tea’m to head down there and clean it ourselves!  We’ll be working our lunch break away in the springs with an ice cold Sweet Leaf Tea in hand, and you know we’ll bring enough to pass some around, along with some great swag.

If you are interested in cleaning the pool with us, email this person! (service@friendsofbartonspringspool.org)

We’ll look forward to seeing you out there!

Have a bit of a competitive streak? Get a little worked up over a friendly game of Go Fish? Me too.

Lucky for the rest of us, Granny’s an exceptionally good sport, and has some of her helpful tips and reminders tucked under Sweet Leaf bottle caps. The next time you find yourself getting worked up over a heated game of checkers or wanting to insult the rival quarterback’s mom, grab a bottle of Sweet Leaf Tea and let Granny drop some wisdom on you.

Which of Granny’s under-the-cap words of wisdom helps keep your competitive side in check?

Contest: Comment on this blog post with the Grannyism you think is most suitable for keeping “friendly” games friendly. Tell us which one and why. We’ll check out the answers and select one lucky winner to enjoy a case of Sweet Leaf Tea and a fancy checkers set.

Hint: check out our Facebook page (and here) for a list of Grannyisms.

If you know Sweet Leaf Tea, you know we believe in laughter, high fives and good music! To bring that point home, we’ve launched the Great Grannyism Cap-Off Contest. This week we’re giving away tickets to one of our favorite festivals right here in our backyard, Austin City Limits Music Festival. All you have to do to enter for these sweet tickets, is drop some Grannyism wisdom on us because we’re on the search for Grannyism #79.

So grab a tea, get inspired and enter a nugget of wisdom here. Besides making people smile when they open a bottle, you could be kicking it in VIP at Austin City Limits next month! Be sure to check out what could be popping up under your cap soon and vote on your favorites. There’s 2,569 entries so far! (Don’t forget to get a coupon for a tea while you’re checking things out.)

Gloria Corral here – BBQ and Sweet Leaf Tea enthusiast, granny, and author of Barbecue Lover’s Guide to Austin. Now, if there’s one thing I know for certain, it’s that Sweet Leaf Tea and BBQ make a great pair to satisfy those summertime cravings. Luckily, Austin has the best BBQ around, and is the hometown of Sweet Leaf Tea.

Last Saturday afternoon, our family was invited to view the premier showing of the new Spy Kids 4 movie at the Long Center here in Austin. Our next-door neighbor is a member of the Rodriguez clan and a co-producer of the movie, so we were very excited to attend. We all looked forward to the big day, which was complete with a carnival on the plaza after the film! Spy Kids 4 was a hit, with lots of action and special effects that kept everyone, young and old, entertained.  Robert Rodriguez, the producer/director, introduced the cast afterwards to loud cheers from the many family members in the audience. An only-in-Austin treat!

It was dinnertime after the carnival and everyone was hungry. When we have the pleasure of eating dinner with our grandchildren, we like to let them choose the place. They selected Whole Foods Market. I like that option because we can have Bowie BBQ’s great smoky meat and Sweet Leaf Tea, the perfect pair. Luckily, the coolers at Whole Foods have a big selection of Sweet Leaf Teas. My grandchildren wanted pizza and the must-have Sweet Leaf Lemonade, so my son-in-law rounded up the drinks buying all of the flavors he could find. We embarked on our first Sweet Leaf Tea tasting session, family style.

I always drink Mint and Honey but agreed to try some new-to-me flavors. I went for Citrus and it’s now my new favorite. The boys wanted the Raspberry and Peach. The men went for Sweet Leaf Tea Original and Lemon & Lime Unsweetened. We shared a round and drank on. Of course, big debates and hoarding of favorites ensued. The kids wanted to keep all the bottle caps with their catchy food-for-thought phrases for their collection, arguing over whose was whose and whose was best. “Dance as though no one is watching,” “You’ll catch more flies with honey,” “Keep your chin up,” “Everything in moderation including moderation.” “Don’t sweat the small stuff,” “All things grow with love,” and “Turn that frown upside-down.”

With our tummies full of BBQ, pizza and drinks, and the bottles safely in the recycle bin, we headed for home with visions of Sweet Leaf Tea dancing in our heads.

AKA, Texas BBQ and Tea Love Fest.

If you’re already hungry, you might not want to read any further. Just thinking about this event gets my mouth watering and a quick gander at the photos made my stomach grumble. I think my lunch plans just changed time and location. Of course, I’m talking about the Texas Monthly Barbeque Festival taking place Sunday, October 30 from noon to 5pm at the Long Center in Austin, TX.

It may seem like the event is far in the future, but tickets are already sold out my friends. Lucky for you, we’ll be giving away some tickets to this AWESOME event soon, so stay tuned here. As for October 30th plans, the Sweet Leaf Tea’m will be there in full effect to keep y’all parched between all the finger-lickin’ good ribs, brisket and sausage. In true Austin fashion there will also be live music, cooking demos and plenty of good Texas folk to mingle with over a tea and “Que”. I mean can it get any better? You can check out photos of last year’s event here (WARNING: You will be hungry upon viewing.)

To get a feel for all the great Texas BBQ that will be in attendance be sure to visit the Texas Monthly BBQ section here or get the Texas Monthly BBQ app. It comes in quite handy when if you’re looking to visit all of the best Texas BBQ joints! Just curious, what’s your favorite BBQ joint in Texas? (I’m a Black’s BBQ in Lockhart, TX gal.)

So, will we see you there?
