SweetLeafDanny here, bringing you the 1st Sweet Picks and Tips of Lollapalooza!  This is the frist edition of a series where we tell you a top band pick at the fest and a tip to survive, so be sure to continue to stop by and see what the rest of the Tea’m has to say!  Maybe their tip will help you get out of a port-o-potty experience gone sour, or help you find friends when the cell signal is down, or a way to get into VIP! :)  Stay tuned, but for now enjoy.

If you are into Soul music, banging beats, and that big horn sound….Look no further than Mayer Hawthorne and the County!

This group know how to put on a show.  I saw them last year (2010) at SXSW and it was amazing.  Turn up your energy to full blast and get your stepping shoes on when you see this group! Check out this video to start getting excited.  They go on at 3:30pm on Saturday at the Sony Stage!

I have been around the block a few times, seen some great bands, traveled across the country in pursuit of Liber-TEA and good times, and have a 3 tips that will make your festival experience the best it can be!

1 – Equal parts Tea/Water to Alcohol Ratio!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen someone passed out on the grass at 7:30pm on Friday night at a music festival.  Follow this tip and you’ll be on the fast track to hydration, fun, and carrying on through to the night, and the rest of the weekend! *High-five bro!*

YEAH!!!!

2 – Sunscreen – USE it!

Don’t get burnt, skin cancer sucks, so does having to avoid the sun the rest of the festival with a obnoxious hat. (see below)

3 – Fake Mustaches – bring em!

It’s fun to have them on and hand them to strangers.  You’ll make someone’s day and look suave doing it!

Follow these tips and have a great time at Lolla!  Oh yeah, be sure to stop by Mayer Hawthorne and the County to say hi and fist bump!  Keep it real!

Did you know that we have 78 Grannyisms in total? If you’ve seen all 78, high-five to you. It takes a lot of Sweet Leaf Tea bottle opening to lay eyes on every single one. But all deliciousness consumed aside, think about the enormous amount of wisdom you’ve soaked up from just opening even one bottle. With every sip, you’ve been building the smarts and know-how for this grand moment.

We’re looking for the 79th Grannyism to add to our collection. We know there are some classic Grannyisms out there that are waiting for their place amongst the best of the best. Maybe you’ve opened a bottle and thought about something your Granny used to say. That definitely happens to me. Or maybe you’ve spouted off a bit of our own wisdom to friends and family that deserves to be memorialized in a special place. And there’s no where better for that wisdom to live than under a Sweet Leaf Tea cap.

Friends, today is your day to impart some wisdom and take a chance at making others smile every time they read what you created. The best part is, you can WIN BIG just for entering. We’re giving away loads of tickets to the best music festivals across the nation including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Langerado. So, open a bottle and let the wisdom brew. Then, enter The Great Grannyism Cap Off Contest at http://sweetleafalmanac.com. The Grand Prize Winner will be memorialized in Sweet Leaf history, win a year supply of tea and be responsible for making hundreds of thousands of people a tad bit wiser.

Check out an event we are giving some tasty @SweetLeafTea to in Chicago!

What – Meet the Bees

Where – Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago, Illinois.

When – 11am – 4pm – July 23, 2011

The bees are buzzing, the honey is flowing, and our volunteer beekeepers are donning their fashionable beekeeping attire. If you’re lucky, you might even catch one of them (a bee OR a volunteer) doing a bee dance! Here at Garfield Park Conservatory, one of Chicago’s premier urban beekeeping sites, we are celebrating the summer honey harvest by inviting families to take part in an afternoon of hands-on activities, education stations, honey tasting and sales, live music and beekeeping demonstrations. As a special treat this year, Sweet Leaf Tea is offering their Mint & Honey Iced Tea FREE to all participants. What a perfect tribute to the honeybees we depend on so very much for our food and beautiful flowers! Plus, because of the abundance of mint plants in the city, the honey produced right here at the Conservatory typically sports a hint of mint flavor. Did you know most mints depend heavily on bees for pollination? Lots of nectar from mint plants equals lots of slightly minty honey flowing from our hives! At the Meet the Bees event, participants can taste honey from around the world, as well as the sweet stuff produced right here on the west side of Chicago. Conservatory honey will be available for purchase.

Festivities begin at 11am on July 23rd. Admission to the event is a $3 suggested donation per person. Children 3 and under, as well as Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance members, are free.

For more information about Meet the Bees, visit the Conservatory website at www.garfieldconservatory.org or see below to watch this Chicago Park District video to see what all the buzz is about!

Happy Monday y’all! With Lollapalooza just 4 weeks away, I’m trying to get up to speed on some of the amazing bands that are going to be performing this year. One of my long time faves, My Morning Jacket, just released a new album and I cannot WAIT to see the band perform Saturday night, August 6, 8:00-10:00pm. If you haven’t picked up the new album, Circuital, do so now. Be prepared to turn your speakers up and let the echoing sounds of Jim James’ voice fill your head. It’ll make for a nice Monday mid-day break. And I guarantee, hearing Jim James sing it live will blow the track you download out of the water. Here’s a clip of the title track, “Circuital” from a recent show. Let it download…it’s worth the wait.

If you don’t have tickets to Lollapalooza yet, have no fear. We’ve got a fun contest brewing and will have more details for you next week! Stay tuned.

Granny has busted out her riding gear and dusted off her 3-speed cruiser and is ready for a night time cruise in the windy city!  Chicago’s L.A.T.E. Ride is this weekend and we couldn’t be more excited to be apart of this awesome event! Basically, at 11pm on Saturday July 9th a group of 9,000 cyclist meet at Buckingham fountain to ride 25-miles around the city through the streets and trails! There is a pit stop mid-way and at the end of the ride everyone meets back at Buckingham Fountain for a pancake breakfast at 3am with some Sweet Leaf to wash it down!  The great thing about this event is that all the proceeds go to Friends of the Parks, a Non-Profit organization who work on many park issues and dig in at park clean-ups and beautification projects in Chicago!

Registration for the event can be found here, or if you want to walk up its $45 for your rider packet and the ride!

What do you say Chicago? Wanna come out, help out the parks, have an amazing bike ride through the Windy City at the wee-hours of the morning, and drink some free Sweet Leaf Tea!  Head on out!
