Here weeee go!  As this is my 3rd year returning to the great city of Chicago and Lollapalooza with the Sweet Leaf Tea Crew, I am very excited to hopefully escape the Texas heat and dive head 1st (like Lady Gaga did at last years festival) into all the live music, Chicago food and great people.

Top Pick : The Cars (Sunday – 8/7 : 4pm : Music Unlimited Stage)

Being a huge fan of the 80s, The Cars always said they would not get back together…Glad they were not able to stick to their word.

Random Pick: The Naked and Famous (Friday – 8/5 : 3pm : Sony Stage!

Although I missed their show here in Austin, Texas a few months ago, I am sure this band will make up for it as we rock out together under the amazing Chicago skyline!

Festival Tips:

1. Ziplock Bags – Good for keeping your cell phone dry if it should rain. Cool thing, Seems to always happen at some point at Lollapalooza.

2. Swag Bag – I make sure to always have a back pack handy for all the Sweet free stuff.

3. Grannyism #65 “Life is a Garden, Dig It”  – I have learned over the many years of festival-going, always make the most out of your experience.

See ya’ in Chicago!

- Maine!

Each year around this time, me and my fellow tea-slinglin co-workers get ready to make our way to Chi-town to work one of the best music festivals ever, Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza to us is like getting to take a senior trip each year. Yes, we are working, but we are having a blast doing it. We have two missions: 1. Refresh the masses with some of our homeade goodness and 2. Have the time of our lives listening to amazing music with the Chicago skyline as the back drop. Speaking of amazing music, here is my must see band of the weekend…

Local Natives! This CA band captured my heart last ACL when I got to see a private performance at an after party. They played my now favorite song, Airplanes, with such intensity I will never forget it. I promise you will not be disappointed with this band.

With this being my 4th Lolla in a row, I do consider myself to have some festival knowledge. It is hard to only pick one festival tip but I am going to have to go with: Bring Toilet Paper!! Sounds weird, I know, but guess what, those port-a-potties get gross after 3 days! And they run out of toilet paper! So do yourself a favor and go buy one of those Charmin-to-go rolls. You and your behind (as granny would say) will thank me later.

It’s Summa Time! That means Granny is hitting the streets and tossing out some Homemade Goodness left, and right!  This time she’s back in the windy city to attend Summer on Southport, a street festival for the WHOLE family!  During the day there is face painting, inflatable slides, and tons of activities for the kids, and at night bands go on and there will be plenty of live music, drinks, and fun to go around for the adults!  It’s a grand time!

@SweetLeafDanny will be there both days with the Tea’m slinging tea and goodies!  Also, stop by the booth to get your photo taken in our Sweet Snaps photo booth, from 1 -4, to show your friends how much fun your weekend was!

SoS is on Saturday 7/30 from 11am – 10pm and Sunday 7/31 from 11am – 9pm at 3700 M. Southport, Chicago near Wrigley Field! More event details are HERE!  Be sure to stop by and say hi to the Tea’m!

Lolla is awesome; it’s easily one of the top festival experiences you can have anywhere in the world.  On this third journey of mine to Chicago with Sweet Leaf, the band that’s captured a good chunk of my excitement is Beirut.   If you guessed their style as eastern European, you’d be kind of right; however, don’t let that lead you astray Saturday @ 4:45PM.  Give Beirut a go.

I love tips and apps just like the next guy.  Make sure you’ve got the info before you go – download the Lollapalooza app now.   Maps, info, and social… you can even setup your GroupMe text messaging groups (a smart move).

I am SO excited about Lolla this year, which makes it extremely hard to pick just one person or band to list as my top pick.  I am stoked to see Eminem, Cee Lo, Foster the People, Local Natives, Bright Eyes, and the Arctic Monkeys to name a few.  But my number one pick for y’all to see is hands down Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses.  Yes, I know I just went from Eminem to Ryan Bingham.  To say I like a wide variety of music may be an understatement.   But this Oscar winning

“Weary Kind” singer has much more to give than just one gritty song.  Ryan Bingham and The Dead Horses jam on stage one great song after another.  For those not familiar with Texas country, I cannot recommend a better act to get you hooked.  And as an added bonus, Ryan himself is quite the looker. It doesn’t hurt that I am a sucker for the harmonica and guitar players.  For Ryan’s own safety, I hope I do not get close to him back stage because I will lick his face.

On that note, on to festival surviving tips.  If you’re in for the long haul or just a day, it always helps to have a blanket.  I recently purchased the JJ Cole Essentials Blanket from Target because of its convenience.  It’s light, easy to carry, and built for the outdoors which makes it perfect for festival season.

My other survival tip is ice cold Mint & Honey green tea.  My favorite teas are Peach and Original, however, during a hot festival day, there is nothing better than an ice cold Mint & Honey.  It gives you the perfect boost in between sets.

I look forward to seeing you out there and for more bands to check out for Lolla, follow  me on Twitter @SweetLeafJacqui!
