#77 BE GOOD TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS…
This was my granny Lois’mantra. She constantly did everything for us. She took us in when my single mom couldn’t manage. She was always helping the neighbors.. but she knew to take care of herself as well. I especially remember the hugh Texas sized bar-b-ques she’d put together. They would take days to plan, EVERYONE would come but she was always gracious and would always be the first one to kick back and have a couple of Lone Stars.
Her ultimate gift to others is fact that when she died (killed by a drunk driver) she donated her organs. It makes me feel good that a part of her is still around and she did give the ultimate gift to others.
#26 FIND A NICE GAL AND SETTLE DOWN
Oh Grandma, if only you knew… Every time I see my grandmother, the same routine questions are asked: “How’s school going?” or “What have you been doing lately? Are you working?”, but the most infamous question: “Do you have a girlfriend?” Well, sorry Grandma, your nephew is a raging homosexual. This is about the time where I say how late it’s getting or that I have to meet my dad for dinner. Then she looks at me for a long while and says, “Oh mijo… there are just some things I’m too afraid to ask…” Sometimes I wish she would just ask me if I was gay. It’s not easy coming out to your highly Catholic abuelita, especially when we’re at the mall and she’s asking me why those boys are wearing those “girly jeans.” But, on the inside, I know for a fact that my grandmother would accept and love me for who I am. It’s a no-brainer. I’ve been her favorite grandchild, and I intend to keep it that way. I just hope that I find the courage to tell her one day. I love you, Grandma, and I will settle down one day and be crazy in love with my future husband. You don’t need to worry about that
