Now that the average daily temperature is above 90, it’s officially summer in Texas. Which means that it’s music festival season. Woo-hoo! Grab a few ice-cold bottles of Sweet Leaf Tea and let’s do this thing. The first of this years festival trifecta is Free Press Summer Fest in Houston (followed by Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits), and I’m psyched about the lineup.

On Saturday, there’s a series of some really great acts that will definitely take your mind off of the heat, but the band I’m really hankerin to see is Yeasayer.

Self-described as “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel,” these guys are musical pioneers. Based in Brooklyn, they’ve been traveling all over the place with the likes of Gogol Bordello, Vampire Weekend, Antibalas, and countless other avante-garde performers.

I first saw them in 2008 at Austin City Limits and have been a fan ever since. If you happen to be in Houston, definitely check them out. They won’t disappoint.

Stay cool and see  you out there!

“Take time to stop and smell the roses”

This grannyism isn’t numbered;, it was on a bottle top from a Peach flavored SLT that I bought a couple of years ago. I started working at Marble Slab a couple of months ago and it’s the first time I’ve started balancing school and work. It isn’t as bad as I’ve made it out to be, but the semester flew by. A little too fast for my taste. This grannyism keeps me in check when I want to rush through the last year of my “teens”, when life becomes all work and no play.
