Has cupid made his way to your office yet? If not, let us be the first to say, Happy Valentine’s Day!
Last Friday we had a lovely pre-Valentine’s Day shindig at the office to get everyone excited about sharing the love today.
At 4 o’clock the good times started flowing. We had:
- A homemade hibiscus, citrus, and Tito’s cocktail we coined as “Love Potion #9″ created by our Innovation Manager, of course.
- Guess the employee’s grade school photo contest: Only one person got them all right!
- Valentine’s bag decorating, JAMMED PACKED WITH GLITTER. (for Valentine’s goodies on the special day)
- A great “LoVe” mix from DJ “Loving” A
Check out the photos from the party, and we’ll be posting a video from the festivities later this week! How do you plan on spending your Valentine’s Day?
xoxo
- SLT V-Day Party Invite!
- V-Day prize pack!
- @SweetLeafDanny’s Cat Bag
- @SweetLeafIntern and @SweetLeafCharla ‘s Bags!

Heartfelt Ode to Granny, a Consumers Poem
By April on Feb 11 Filed In Austin, Texas, Blog Love, Sweet Consumers 2 Comments
While you guys are working hard on your Valentines Day, Granny-inspired haiku’s, I thought I’d share a little video poem from one of our favorite Facebook fans, Kerry O’Brien. Anytime Kerry comments he puts it in the form of a poem/rap and we thought it’d be cool if he’d do a little number for our blog. Would you believe he agreed to for some Raspberry tea?! Easy yo!
Gastro-love-a-thon: Almost Famous Chef Competition
By April on Feb 10 Filed In Austin, Texas, Events, Food & Beverage 2 Comments
I receive a lot of emails that involve invites for events but trust me when I say that the ones that involve free GOOD food garner the most attention from me. When I received my invite from my buddy Barbara from Nestle Waters for the Almost Famous Chef Competition sponsored by the delicious and refreshing *San Pellegrino, I RSVPed immediately! (I attended last year and have been having lusty food dreams since then…)
This contest begins with 80 culinary students cooking their hearts out, hoping to be in the top 10. The top 10 students will continue to the finals in Napa Valley, where they will be treated to an all-expense paid gastro-love-a-thon of everything tasty and blissful that Napa has to offer. Sounds pretty amazing to me and trust me when I say that I wish I was one of the VIP guests getting to hang out for the final round!
Admittedly, my buddy and I showed up after 6:30 and a lot of the food was gone, so my taste test was limited but still amazing. My personal favorite plate of the evening belonged to Verlon C. Murkey and the “Grilled NY Strip w/fingerling potatoes and chard.” The food was stacked beautifully on the fingerling potato and was topped with a dollop of something that resembled aoili and was pretty spicy. The texture and the flavors went together really well starting with the first slightly crisp bite of the potato and ending with a little bit of searing heat from the dollop of sauce. The snapper dish was one of the prettiest and the winner who will move on to the next round made a beautiful quail fricasse with Creole cream cheese grits (these grits were literally to.die.for.) and smothered collard greens. Nicholas J. Hymel, my hat is tipped to you, my brother. The quail was tasty but the Creole cream cheese grits were Slap-yo-Momma good. I’d really like to have that recipe. Share it. NOW. I’m hungry.
If you are like me and won’t be flying to Napa for the Finals, you can watch it live from their website in March. Be sure to follow them on Twitter and “Like” their page on Facebook so you can stay abreast of how the competition is heating up.
*I really do love sparkling water so that was not a totally shameless plug for San Pellegrino.
Conversation Hearts and Granny: A Sweet, Sweet Contest
By April on Feb 9 Filed In Blog Love, Sweet Contests 66 Comments
It’s the time of year when the pink and red decorations come out and love feels like it’s bursting from the seams. Doesn’t it just make you thirsty?
Well, we know how much all of you love Sweet Leaf Tea and contests, so we’re offering you a chance to show it by writing a little haiku about your feelings for some Homemade Goodness in a Bottle.
Background: Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7. The lines rarely rhyme. Example by yours truly:
Valentines day tea
Minty fresh or lemon yo
it’s sweet and good.
(I’m willing to bet that your haiku will be much better than mine and personally, I endorse this challenge.)
Rules: Post your tea-infused haiku in the comments section of this blog post between February 9th and February 14th and we’ll announce the lovely winner on Tuesday February 15th. We decided to give you a little longer than originally planned because there is always a chance that you’ll get hit by Cupid’s arrow and start feeling all lovey-dovey and inspired to write sweet, sweet poetry about your favorite beverage.
Great, but what do I win? I’m glad you asked! Besides a delicious 6-pack of uber-romantic, Raspberry Tea (OR your favorite flavor), Our friends at @WholeFoodsATX have offered to sweeten the deal by sharing some Whole Foods Market Organic Chocolate Truffles, massage stones from HimalaRose, and massage oil and body lotion from HUGO Naturals. Does it get much better than sweet tea, chocolate, and massage goodies? I think not and I’m slightly jealous of the winner!
So crack open a bottle of your favorite tea and the let the love feel your belly and your soul. Surely that will inspire a gem of a haiku.
