<<One of our fans recently wrote in to tell us about his love for Mint & Honey Green Tea. Check out how it helps him get through 100 mile runs!>>

My favorite flavor, or should I say Sweet Leaf Tea in general, found its way to my heart and sole (note spelling incorrect on sole) somewhat by accident.

I am an ultra distance runner. Yes, I am one of those bona fide wackos that runs 100 miles at a time on rugged backcountry trails – for no other reason than…well… er, I need to figure that out.

Like most ultra runners, I have quite the addiction to the arsenal of modern sports nutrition products to get me through these races, which often require over 24 hours to finish. The stomach takes as much beating as the legs. Don’t believe me? Try downing over 60 sports gels, gallons of sugary electrolyte replacement drinks, a dozen bars, more gels, and throw in some bananas, salt tabs and maybe an occasional bite of pizza while you are reading this e-mail.

Ok – now my story. I’m about 60 miles into a race, it’s hot, legs not feeling great, stomach is not feeling great and I run out of my tried and true sports drink. I come hobbling into the next checkpoint and someone kindly offers me a bottle of … (insert blaring trumpet fanfare here) Sweet Leaf mint and honey….ice cold. If there was ever such thing as God in a bottle, that was it. I continued on for a top ten finish. (more trumpets)

So later that summer, another race, but this time I decided to have an occasional bottle of that magic iced tea waiting for me at the check point. That was 3 years ago. Sweat Leaf Mint Honey tea has now joined my arsenal at every race. Something about that green tea and honey, especially accompanied with the sound of ice cubes, is the ideal respite from all the harsh sports drinks and seems to keep the stomach where it belongs. A lot of other runners are aware of this fact now too.

So there you have it. And in case you are wondering, Honest Tea, Tazo, Sobe, Republic, Celestrial ….just ain’t the same.

My next race is June 12 – the San Diego 100 and I will be packing Sweet Leaf Tea. Come out and cheer me on!
