Or more like Country-ed it, or Plowed it? Nevertheless, Sweet Leaf was there and it was great. Me and our Sales Rep from AZ (Craig) pulled up to the Country Thunder grounds at 4pm on Tuesday in a sweeeeeetttttt RV…..or as we like to call it, the Sweet Leaf Tea-Pee 2. (see Sweet Leaf Tea-Pee 1 here)  Then, we met up with the good folks over at Spike Beverage to circle the wagons (RVs) and prepare for our big adventure the following day.

After setting up our tea-slinging booth it was allllllll country. During the festival, we loaded up a Mule with people, product, and bandanas to spread the love to the campsites.  See photo below!  We even met up with our Gibson Guitar Rep while we were down there.  Good times were definitely had by all!

Among the few acts I caught while I was there included: Gary Allen, Rio Grande, Keith Urban, and of course the LEGEND WILLIE NELSON.  –

Now Lets talk about Willie —  76 years old, still on tour,  SHREDDS on the guitar. (Seriously- he can jam out on some crazy riffs), still looking good, and still keeping it real. Moment of silence for Willie Nelson’s greatness.

If you couldn’t tell, seeing him live for a second time was the highlight of Country Thunder.  He played all the hits: “Georgia on My Mind,” “On the Road Again,” “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys,” and “Good Hearted Women.”  Truly Breathtaking and amazing!

See below for some photos of the trip!  This is @SweetLeafDanny hanging up his hat.

In the spirit of my soon-to-be awesome garden, I couldn’t resist the look and sound of this delicious Tea Snacky (aka #teasnacky on Twitter) sent to us by Gina from Sunrise, FL. All I can think about besides sinking my teeth into this tasty treat is getting my tomatoes planted so I can really enjoy the full effect!

In Gina’s own words:

“Hands down the best #teasnacky combination is….Sweet Leaf Mint & Honey Green Tea with a grilled tomato, basil and mozzarella sandwich…pure amazingness!!! I could seriously have this for the rest of my life and be the happiest person in the world!”

I second that, Gina.

Sarrah Thompson works for the Whole Foods Market Flagship store here in Austin TX in the Prepared Foods department. She recently contacted me because she wanted some of our labels to create a dress for their Earth Day Trashion Show and as a slave to fashion (in my own mind) I couldn’t say “no”! Sarrah and some other folks in her department have been collecting bottle caps to help create the perfect dress, so all she needed was some of our labels to really create the perfect Granny-approved dress.

If you are going to do any shopping at Whole Foods Market this Thursday, be sure to check out their Earth Day Celebration they are throwing too! They will have folks from Urban Roots, Sustainable Food Center, Hondo Green, EnviroInks, and more.

The Trashion Show starts at 5:00PM so come see the Sweet Leaf Tea dress on a real live model, Thursday April 22nd in Austin TX. I’ll be there taking pictures because I can’t wait to see it!!

Stay tuned for a step by step blog post by Sarrah too! Do you create everyday items, clothing or accessories with recycled products or packaging? We’d love to hear about it! Be sure to comment!

MS 150 Recap

By April on Apr 20     Filed In Austin, Texas, Events, Sweet Bikes     2 Comments

Wow, today is a really hard day to be at work, much less out of bed because I have parts hurting me that I didn’t think were possible. Why? Because me and about 50 other folks on Tea’m Sweet Leaf Tea embarked on an 180 mile bike ride from Houston to Austin in the name of kicking multiple sclerosis’ arse.

We started Friday night with a very smooth chartered bus ride into Houston straight to a dinner party thrown for us by Don and Ann Short. We were happy to have Don and his son Will riding along with us, so the party they threw us was amazing. We walked into one of the most beautiful houses I’ve ever seen in real life and led into the backyard where glasses of Italian red and white wine were waiting for us all next to a giant terrine of cheddar fondue, assorted charcuterie, fruit and mini-toasts. Next thing we know the Marshall Ford Swing Band was playing for us while we ate and drank an incredible buffet-style meal of Italian food under a canopy of giant trees next to a reflection pool. Most of our bus ride was in the rain, so it seemed to us that the skies had cleared just for Tea’m Sweet Leaf Tea and it was magical. As hard as it was to leave such a wonderful party, we had to check in to our hotel rooms, as ride out time was set for 6:45AM the next morning.

Ride out Saturday morn was a bit wet and dreary but we embarked on the start of our 180 mile journey with enthusiasm and excitement. I’ve ridden a lot in the hill country over the last 3 years or so, and I can honestly say it was a treat to ride in Houston. It’s so unbelievably flat! The first 45 miles or so were the easiest I’ve ever ridden. I loved it! Love turned to pain once I broke a couple of spokes and had to finish the 100 miles with a back wheel that would barely turn. The hills after our lunch break in Bellville were pretty tough even with my new climbing gears, so I knew something was wrong with my back wheel. My wheel-issues were taken care of once I rolled over the finish line and was able to take my bike to the kind folks at Sun & Ski Sports so they could fix my spokes and true my wheel.

Our WONDERFUL volunteers had our cots made, music playing, food grilling and cold drinks ready for us when we completed our ride so we had it pretty easy the rest of the day. We needed the chill time since we still had 80 miles to go the next day. I’ve never ridden 100 miles and then woken up at the crack of dawn to get back on my saddle and do it all over again. Let me tell you that I was not alone in the groan I let out when we clipped into our pedals and sat on our saddles to ride out of La Grange Sunday morning. OUUUUUUUUUUUCH!! I felt old until Garrett Newman (about to turn 16) tells me that he was feeling it too.

The rain started about 3AM or so Sunday morning, so it was wet and cold when we took off but eventually the weather warmed up a little bit and we were cruising right along back to Austin. Me and my newly trued wheel spun like crazy up the huge hills on the east side of Bastrop (Hwy 71) and finally we were heading into nirvana, aka lunch stop in Bastrop. A HUGE thanks to the awesome peeps of Jason’s Deli! That lunch was just what I needed to be able to crank it out during the last 30 miles or the ride.

I rolled over the finish line right before 4PM to a huge crowd cheering and just like last year, I shed a couple of tears. What an amazing experience and accomplishment! Now for a serious soak in some Epsom salts.

Home Slice Pizza back at our office after the ride Sunday.
