Shamrocks, Leprechauns, and Green Beer!

Do you ever wonder what St. Patrick’s Day is really about? I mean, there HAS to be more to it than drinking green beer and wearing silly outfits. I took some time to read all about how St. Patrick’s Day started out as a Catholic holiday feast that celebrated St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The United States celebrated it’s first St. Patrick’s Day with a parade in Boston on March 17, 1737. What started in the U.S. as a political statement has turned into another reason to party. Why am I not surprised?

AUSTIN TX: Billed as the LARGEST St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Central TX, it’s surely not one to miss. Wednesday 3/17/10 starting at 2PM. Check this out for more info. (Oh and it’s SXSW so you KNOW that there will be tons of green beer flowing all over town!
DALLAS TX: The Dallas Observer’s throw-down starts with a HUGE parade and ends with an after-party concert with the Old 97′s. View the flyer. Saturday 3/13/10 starting at 11AM.
HOUSTON TX: Who doesn’t love a parade (besides the poor clean-up crew after ward)? Join H-town while they green stuff up! Saturday 3/13/10 at noon.
NEW YORK CITY: Join the city that never sleeps this March 17th for the 249th St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Wednesday 3/17/10.
FLORIDA: In the sunshine state? Check out the 32nd annual Naples St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Saturday 3/13/10 at 11AM.
TEMPE AZ: Why not do something a little different this year and go check out THE American Celtic punk rock band, Flogging Molly at the Tempe Beach Park 3/17/10 at 4PM.
My personal favorite part of Irish lore is the famed,leprechaun. Why do I love these wee little fellows so much? Because they are cobblers that play pranks on people, oh and because I dig rainbows. I have been looking for one with a pot of gold for years and have just not been able to catch one. There’s still time yet!
Not going to leave the house due to an irrational fear of leprechauns playing pranks on you? Turn on the boobtube and look for “The Boy with Green Hair”. It’s pretty entertaining and can usually be found playing on some obscure movie channel this time of year.

A man walks into a bar and orders one shot. Then he looks into his shirt pocket and orders another shot. After he finishes, he looks into his shirt pocket again and orders another shot.
The bartender is curious and askes him, “Every time you order a shot, you look in your shirt pocket. Why?”
