Howdy to all! This weekend there is sunshine in the forecast – YAY!! Crazy considering it was snowing GIANT flakes on Tuesday, but that’s Texas for ‘ya!
Our Tea’m has been busting a move on a weekly basis, even when me and the other captain, @SweetLeafAshley haven’t been there- now that’s dedication to a great cause! Check out some Tea’m SLT blog posts by Matt. We showed up this past Saturday only to have it rained out by some WARM drizzle. Some hard-core dude went ahead and rode, but I opted to go to boot camp over at Fitness Unleashed instead. Looking forward to some quality time in the saddle and sun this weekend!
There are a few great rides happening this weekend to help us (and our arses) feel more comfortable in the saddle. Here are some picks for weekend rides:
1) Mellow Johnny’s is having a ride Saturday morning at 9AM with a special visitor… the amazing GARY FISHER!!!!! Don’t miss your chance to ride with the man who put mountain biking on the map! Even my hubby Dylan is psyched to take advantage of the rolling east side hills, cycling camaraderie, and a little G-Faction!
2) Austin Cycle Camp has their weekly Saturday morning training ride starting out at 8:30AM from Akins High School. Those guys are awesome, and have been really helpful with getting our Tea’m get ready for the MS-150. I’d bet that the folks who aren’t doing the Gary Fisher ride will be there. Join the Tea’m!
3) Jack and Adams Bikes is having a really cool ride called Le Tour de Bean on Saturday. The ride leaves their parking lot at 8:30AM and takes you through town with stops at several great local coffee shops. Should be a lot of fun.
Know of any cool rides around town or training rides in Austin or in your area?
Bowl for Kids’ Sake

Big Brothers Big Sisters is one of those organizations that is near and dear to our hearts at Sweet Leaf Tea. Many of us are Bigs including Clayton who has been a Big for several years. I’m just a year in myself, but I can honestly say I feel like it’s a very rewarding experience to have a Little. And truthfully, it’s a whole lot of fun.
The thing about Big Brothers Big Sisters, is like many non-profits, they need help from time to time to keep helping those little people in our lives who need it most. Their big fund raising event for the year besides the Ice Ball Gala is Bowl for Kids’ Sake. Seeing that, we the tea’m-mates of Sweet Leaf Tea are always down for a rockin’ good time, we’re lacing up our shoes, shining our glittery rollers, and heading out to Highland Lanes in Austin, Texas this weekend to win some Turkeys. Now, even if we don’t bring home the trophy (I’ve been known to roll some strikes, though), I’m positive Bowl for Kids’ Sake will be a happening event—and certainly, one that Sweet Leaf Tea is proud to support. If you’re not on a team, have no fear. It’s never too late to show support by donating to the cause. The Littles appreciate it more than you can imagine!
I’ll report back on our scores….
Secret Ingredients Abound!

Both our new Citrus and new Diet Citrus Green Teas are made with a super-secret special blend of fruits. Sure, there’s orange, lemon, and lime. But can you guess what the other flavors are? There’s one particular fruit in the aroma and another that hits your tongue on contact.
Pick up a bottle or can, and let us know what you think the secret flavors are!
Mixers & Fixers – Part VI

You must be tired, because you’ve been running through my mind all day long…
This one comes to us from a fan named April Green. Thanks a million! If she’s anything like me, she’s had just about enough of this nasty, cold, winter weather. Maybe that’s why she sent me her take on one of my favorite summertime drinks. Here’s the how-to for April’s Mint Julep:
2 parts Mint & Honey Green Tea
1 part Maker’s Mark
Simple enough. You may want to throw a sprig of mint into the mix just for presentation. You could even add some muddled mint leaves into the drink if you want to go the extra mile, but don’t go crazy – the tea is pretty minty to begin with. Of course if you’re in a hurry to get to thee rocking chair on the warm and sunny porch in your day-dreaming mind, then you should probably just stick to April’s version.
Send me your recipe. This one is proof that I’ll post them here, and that I’ll add them to our website.
Cheers,
-Craig
The Sound of LOVE

Welcome to a new week! I hope the week (and weekend) went well for everyone, though it’s been a crazy one for sure. Here in central Texas we finally got some sunshine! After over a week of rain (and no biking…), that’s about all I can ask for. Social Cycling ATX ride, anyone?
So the highlight of this week for me was being able to crank the new Angels and Airwaves new album, titled Love. This was a SUPER big deal and long awaited for me. It’s been over two years since they’ve released any new music, so needless to say, us AVA fans were ready for this!
The album was scheduled to be released on Valentines day, but was released two days early for premium members on their website and on Fuel.tv. And the best part? It’s completely FREE! That’s right, $0. So if you’re in the mood for some great music, click HERE and give it a listen. This band very well could change your life as much as they’ve changed mine.
If you really dig ‘em, they’ll be touring the U.S. In April and March. Believe me, you don’t wanna miss one of these shows! (Think U2 mixed with punk rock)
And in other news, THE Gary Fisher will be in Austin the 26th and 27th! Friday night, he’ll be doing a Q and A session at Mellow Johnny’s bike shop, followed by a 9 A.M. ride Saturday morning. So if you’ve always wanted to hang out with the father of mountain biking, here’s your chance.
“Going out and riding every day… when will this be a prescribable item? We have a very powerful cure for what ails this world. It’s called a bicycle.” – Gary Fisher
Well said. This guy has it figured out!
I hope you got out there and enjoyed the weekend! Soaked up some vitamin D, some vitamin Tea (cheesy, I know), and “just keep livin’… l-i-v-i-n‘”…
keep looking »
