Granny On ESPN Game Day!

Howdy to all you hardcore college football fans out there! If you were up early last Saturday morning (9am is pretty early for Austinites by the way) to watch Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, and Chris Fowler talk football for the UT v. Tech game, you may have noticed a familiar sight bobbing up and down in the background…that’s right, Granny was there showing her support for the Texas Longhorns! Elizabeth, Danny, LG, and I got up early to hold signs and hand out free Sweet Leaf Tea to a couple hundred thirsty football fans who happily accepted the cold treat in the hot, humid Texas weather. We even made a new friend with a guy from California who liked our tea so much that he’s looking for the closest Whole Foods when he gets home so he can buy as much as he can!
As for our awesome signs, we cleverly attached them to pool-cleaner poles so that we could wave them REALLY high up in the air. And when I say really high, I’m not exaggerating—they were about 20 ft in the air, and had a strong wind blown through, definite Game Day carnage would have occurred. Luckily, that didn’t happen, so we were able to fly our huge Granny head with a couple talk bubbles alongside that said “Texas!,” “Fight,” and “Who needs guns when we’ve got Colt.” My personal favorite, however, was “Cougar for Kirk.” Yeah, it turns out Granny’s got a thing for younger men.
Lance Armstrong made an appearance, and in the end Lee made a wise prediction and correct pick for the Longhorns to win. The crowd went nuts, we took down our signs, picked up empty bottles of Sweet Leaf (ya, that’s right—we Don’t Mess With Texas!), and got ready for the madness later on that day of tailgating and going to the game. It was definitely another fun weekend hanging out with the Sweet Leaf crew and watching football.

What Gets You Out of Bed in the Morning?
By April on Sep 24 Filed In Social Media, Sweet Consumers 2 Comments
I wear many hats here at Sweet Leaf Tea and it’s not just because I can’t decide what to wear. I am the Consumer Services Manager, which includes answering emails and phone calls from consumers like yourself, along side of running our social media efforts (Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, The Sip) and also acting as the SLT receptionist. When you have multiple jobs it is likely that you will have a preference as to which one you dig more than the other, and I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that I am madly in-love with working with our consumers.
Social media first appears as simply a marketing tool and would have nothing to do with consumer services, but really it’s all encompassing. Try to look at it as another way to reach your audience. I can wait and wonder what the next complaint might be from a consumer, or I can peruse Twitter or FB to see what the public is saying about SLT and respond to them in an open and transparent way. While doing this, it’s inevitable that I’ll make connections with our consumers. CONNECTION is what makes my job worth waking up every day to do. Knowing that I have a chance to make a new friend/connection and to help build a community around our brand is the lemon & lime in my unsweetened tea.
Do you know what pushes the cool-factor over the edge for me personally? Meeting our fans/friends/followers/all-around awesome consumers, in-person that’s what! If you follow any of the Sweet Leaf Marketing Tea’m online and see us in the real world, come up and say hey! We want to put a name with the tweet or comment and might even want a picture with you while sharing a tea. Now, that’s CONSUMER LOVE!
Musings of a New Intern

Hey there all you Sweet Leaf Tea enthusiasts. I’ve been interning for Sweet Leaf Tea for about a month now and I thought I’d drop y’all an update.
Before I get to that, let me tell you a little about why I decided to intern here in the first place. I had my first SLT at Austin City Limits Festival a few years ago. It was over 100 degrees in September and so dusty you could hardly see from one stage to the next. My buddy brought me a bottle of Original and I’ve been hooked ever since. So when the opportunity to intern for this company arose, I seized it!
So far it’s been better than I could have imagined! I get to go to all kinds of cool events around Austin and hand out free Sweet Leaf Tea. My first event was at a karate tournament, which was really awesome! Overall, I’ve been getting some great experience with the marketing team and their day to day workload.
Also, this company really knows how to treat their employees (yes, and even their interns.) In the short time I’ve worked here, we’ve had two company parties. One party was out on Lake Austin, where they provided the food and booze on an awesome Hawaiian party barge. Clayton and David came out and took us out for surfing and wake boarding on their awesome boat! But, I have to say the best part about my internship so far has been the people. We are all more friends than co-workers. Everyone who works here has a great attitude, works hard, and really knows how to have fun.
Lately things have been pretty crazy around the office with everyone getting ready for ACL this year. If you see me there, give me a shout out (I might be decked out in a Granny outfit rocking out at the Rock Band booth). You can also catch me driving the SLT van around town giving out free tea at various events. That’s it for now. Look for more updates where I’ll be posting some sweet pictures of me at “work”. Later!
Sweet Leaf Tea at Americana Music Festival – Nashville, TN

Southeast RSM, Greg Moran, and I lit up Nashville, TN, this week for Sweet Leaf Tea’s sponsoring of the 10th Annual Americana Music Festival with a special Austin tribute night on Wednesday, September 16th. Featured performers included Austin’s own Seth Walker, Amy Cook, Asleep at the Wheel, The Trishas, and Reckless Kelly. A surprise cameo by former CCR front man, John Fogerty, was a welcome addition to the Austin lineup, and armed with a bar stocked full of Sweet Leaf Tea and Tito’s Vodka, the Cannery Ballroom in downtown Nashville rocked with great music and Austin flavor all night.
Seth Walker kicked off the night with his roots style blues and soul. The Carolina born, Austin-transplanted Walker stopped to grab a bottle of his favorite Sweet Leaf Tea and posed for a quick photo op with me after the show.
Amy Cook took the stage next with some mellow, acoustic tunes, followed by nine time Grammy winner Asleep at the Wheel. The proclaimed “Kings of Texas Swing” got the crowd going with their hit song “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie”, which coincidentally also inspired purchase of several “Tito’s Sweet-O’s” among the crowd (1 part Tito’s Vodka, 2 parts Sweet Leaf Mint & Honey Green Tea)…or at least among the Willie Nelson look alike and myself (see below).
Mr. John Fogerty was next to make an appearance, and he did not disappoint. Performing some classic CCR favorites like “Bad Moon Rising”, “Born on the Bayou”, and “Fortunate Son”, Fogerty had the crowd bumping. For a man in his mid-60s, this guy was out of this world. Though I can’t be sure, I’d say he definitely sampled one of the Sweet Leaf Tea/Tito’s concoctions provided in backstage goody bags prior to his on-stage romping Wednesday night. (Thanks to Charla Adams, Jenna Popiel and everyone (Sweet Leaf Interns!) involved in putting together goody bags for the artists!)
The four lovely Austin ladies known as The Trishas hit the stage next with some amazing vocals, and Reckless Kelly closed the set with a great performance and a message-laden tune about our troops abroad.
In all, the Cannery Ballroom went through 35 cases of Sweet Leaf Tea in addition to the myriad Sweet Leaf Tea/Tito’s Vodka goody bags distributed to the performing artists. Needless to say, Sweet Leaf Tea has a new fan base in the Music City! With help from the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau (especially event coordinator Rose Reyes), the Americana Music Festival was a huge hit for not only Sweet Leaf Tea, but the entire city of Austin. Bring it on, City Limits!
