The Yeah Yeah Yeahs:  Although, I was super disappointed to hear about MCA (lots of love goes out to him) and the canceled show, I was sooooo stoked to hear one of my favorite bands, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs would be replacing them.

I saw the Beastie Boys live the last time they came to Austin and they put on an amazing show but I have never seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs before. That is now my must see of the weekend. I will be hanging out with you Charla at Ben Harper before the show though, another one of my top picks, hoping he will play my fave “Walk Away”.

My Lollapalooza band pick is Kevin Devine.  He.IS.Awesome.  Acoustic Singer/Song writer from Brooklyn, New York, is a must see at Lolla.  He may not be one of the headlining bands, but he definitely knows how to rock a show.  I have seen him over 15 times and he never gets old.  Cross-your-fingers and hope he plays “Wolf’s Mouth.”  After that song is played…you’re hooked for life.

Kevin Devine rocks my world!

Mine??…..The Legendary Lou Reed.

On Sunday August 9th the Legendary Lou Reed will take the stage at Lollapalooza 2009.  With his solemn stare (if and when he takes his shades off) and his laid back vocals, along with his profound, poetic, and truthful soul, he explores the light and the darkness that lives in all of us.

Okay, he explores a lot of the darkness, with dream-like beauty.  This is an artist that has influenced my musical tastes and allowed me to explore All Tomorrows Parties.  He has probably done the same for many musicians out there who are were influenced by art, punk & the glam vibe.  I would like to think some indie rockers are descendants of Lou, but it’s just Rock n Roll.  Lou penned a song about Jenny and her life being saved by turning on a New York radio station!  “Her life was saved by Rock n Roll!”  Lou swooned this statement on a song by the same name which is on one of thee greatest rock n roll albums of all time!  If you don’t own Loaded by the Velvet Underground, get it!  You won’t be disappointed and you will learn something about yourself.  I promise!  Loaded changed the way I walked down the streets of Brooklyn when I lived in New York.  Suddenly I had a Lou Reed swagger.  I Found A Reason to believe I was what I perceived.  This album was recorded  years before I was conceived but I was born to indulge in it!

THE WILDSIDE
Not only did he introduce us to some of the characters we might find on the Wildside, he let you know about the Vicious people you might meet walking down a Dirty Boulevard… (sigh!) What a man!  I can not wait to see him perform at Lolla!  I’m super excited!!  Like a teenage girl who’s allowed to drive her parents car to her first rock concert!!!

WAITING FOR THE MAN
I’m Waiting For My Man and I will see him on Sunday August 9th in a hot park in Chicago.

Lou, you were my first choice when asked by the Sweet Leaf Tea boss’, “who are the top 3 bands you want to see at Lolla?”  Lou Reed held my #1 spot!!

I’ll be there in Chicago with my Head Held High.  They might call me Sunday’s clown but I won’t be wearing a hand me down gown.  I’ll be there with dark shades covering my starry eyes…awaiting… the man.

Xo ;)

What are some of your favorite Lou Reed or Velvet Underground songs??  Don’t have any??  Allow me to school you.

The Man, the myth, the legend, Lou Reed.

My pick for this year’s Lolla Festival is Vampire Weekend.  Besides the fact that their music is great, they (actually their bus driver) were nice enough to let me into their bus and watch college football games during ACL last year.  Of course I came with gifts like Sweet Leaf Tea and beer.

Great TV's to watch football

Do these guys really look like a Rock and Roll Band?

Do these guys really look like a Rock and Roll Band?

Yes, it’s once again that time of year when a huge chunk of our office packs a suitcase and heads north to Chicago for Lollapalooza. The majority of us will be busy slingin’ tea and keeping the masses quenched, but I guarantee each one of us has at least one band that is on the “I need a break now” list. The “if I see no other band, but _____ I will be happy” band. The “I will do anything to see ____” band. It’s only fair right? I say yes.

BUT, what if everyone wants to see the same band? Could we all have the same taste in music? Who’s going to watch the booth while “fill in the blank” is rockin’ everyone’s face off? (Thanks, Danny!) Well, let’s see.

I call Beastie Boys. Well, until yesterday when I found out my B-boys canceled. Poor MCA and poor me. This B-girl has waited almost 20 years to see them and I was going to get a double whammy with Lolla and ACL. Now, nothin’. Don’t get me wrong, I want MCA to get better and quick (xoxo) but please, please schedule a show in Austin. Until then, I gotta pass the mic to Ben.

Charla’s new pick: Ben Harper and Relentless 7. Ben, no worries, you’re never a runner-up in my book. I’m looking forward to seeing you (now and again at ACL) and the three J’s (Jason, Jordan, and Jesse). You always rock my soul. From “Number with No Name” to “Shimmer & Shine” I won’t miss a beat. Ben, you will always have a special place in my heart.

Ok Tea’m, what band is your one-and-only-must-see Sweet Lolla Pick? We’ve got a schedule to make.
